MIAMI (WSVN) — A South Florida teen and her family facing possible deportation, boarded a flight back to their native of Peru.
According to relatives of the Hornung family, ICE agents placed the family in an American Airlines flight Friday afternoon. A family member spoke to the mother of the family, Maria Jesus Mandilo, who announced they’re immediate departure. “She was crying, she just let me know that she was leaving without advice. She’s not supposed to speak with us, she had only one minute to speak with us by phone,” said the member.
Supporters of Camila Hornung held a candlelight vigil at her family’s home Tuesday night in Southwest Miami-Dade. The 19-year-old and her family were taken into custody by immigration officials for illegally being in the country.
The family members and friends said they made contact with Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen this week, but nothing worked on the favor of the Hornung’s.
Friends of Camila have not given up and will be holding a walk-a-thon on June 21st. For those of you who have a few dollars to spare, they are looking for donors/sponsors for each walker. Sponsors may donate as little as $1 for every lap their walker completes. All proceeds with go to Camila and her family. If you’re interested, join her facebook group and contact one of the officers, or reply to this post and I’ll forward the message to them. Thanks to those who can help!
